About Me

I’m Jamie Kelsey, a junior member of Verulam Golf Club in St Albans and I love sharing my passion for the sport.

I’ve been learning to play golf since September 2023, and I have a brilliant mentor that inspired me to pursue a future in the Golf industry.

Golf tricks are a great way to increase hand eye coordination, check out my favourite tricks here!

Clubs

I inherited my original set of golf clubs from my Grandad. After practicing at the range I was very lucky to have been given a set of irons by my mentor, Peter.

Practice

I practice my golf swing every day on astro turf at home and regularly visit local golf ranges, including Gosling in Welwyn and Redbourn.

Ben Hogan

I enjoy watching pro golfers techniques online but my main resource is a book given to me by my mentor Peter, Ben Hogan’s “Five Lessons: The Modern Fundamentals of Golf”.

Ben Hogan is one of only 5 players to have won all 4 majors, the Masters tournament, the Open Championship, the US open and the PGA championship. He one 9 majors in total.

Hogan discovered golf as a fifteen-year-old caddie and became a golf professional in 1929. Before being injured he won the U.S. Professional Golfers’ Association of America (PGA) Championship twice (1946 and 1948) and the U.S. Open (1948). He was also a three-time winner (1940, 1941, and 1948) of the Vardon Trophy, awarded annually for the lowest stroke average in PGA-approved tournaments. Hogan was the leading money winner on the PGA tours of 1940, 1941, 1942, 1946, and 1948. He wrote the modern fundamentals of golf in 1957.

Samuel Ryder (24 March 1858 – 2 January 1936) was an English businessman, entrepreneur, golf enthusiast, and golf promoter. At the age of 50 he became an enthusiastic golfer and then from 1923 to 1925 he, together with his brother James, started sponsoring a number of golf tournaments and matches mostly at his home club of Verulam near St Albans.

From late 1925 he started employing Abe Mitchell as his private coach. In early 1926 the idea for a match between British and American professional golfers was proposed. Ryder became involved and sponsored the event. It had been his intention that the match would be the first Ryder Cup but it was later decided that the match would not be an official contest. The first official event, for which Ryder donated a gold trophy, took place in 1927.
